Robert A. Culnane has worked as a student loan industry
participant and as an investment banker to student loan issuers since 1985.
Most recently, he was Managing Director of the Capital Markets Division of
First Marblehead Corporation. Mr. Culnane has been associated with First
Marblehead since the early 1990s when he assisted the company in raising
capital and executed securitizations. Between 1981 and 2000, Mr. Culnane was
Vice President and Manager in the Municipal Bond Department at Goldman Sachs,
responsible for running the $38 billion Short Term Group and leading their
tax-exempt student loan business. Mr. Culnane has completed over $4.0 billion
in taxable and tax-exempt student loan financings. He holds a B.S. degree from
Middlebury College where he graduated with Honors.
Paul McCarty - Senior Vice President, Private Loan
Operations
Paul McCarty has over 14 years of diverse experience in
providing student loan financial services. Mr. McCarty is responsible for GCO
ELF's private loan products and operations. Prior to joining GCO ELF, Mr.
McCarty served as Senior Vice President of Loan Operations for First Marblehead
Corporation, providing leadership in all areas of the life cycle of private
student loans. Prior to First Marblehead, Mr. McCarty served as Senior Vice
President of TERI, a not-for-profit guarantor of private student loans. Paul
received a B.A. Degree from Boston College.
Winthrop T. Smith - Senior Vice President
Win Smith has worked in the investment banking industry
for 26 years with a primary focus on student loan securitization and municipal
finance. Mr. Smith is responsible for the analysis, purchase and securitization
efforts of GCO ELF's student loan portfolios. Mr. Smith manages GCO ELF's risk
assessment profile including responsibility for the hedging of GCO ELF's market
positions. Prior to GCO ELF, Mr. Smith worked at GMAC and A.G. Edwards &
Sons, Inc. Mr. Smith graduated from Yale University in 1981 with a degree in
mathematics and has earned an MS in Mathematical Finance at Oxford University.
Steve Underhill - Senior Vice President, Accounting
Steve Underhill has more than 20 years experience in
finance, accounting and operations, including more than 10 years experience in
student loan operations. Prior to joining GCO ELF, Mr. Underhill served as Vice
President at GMAC ELF responsible for education loan funding, trust accounting
and related trust operations. Prior to GMAC ELF, Mr. Underhill served as a
Director of Operations and Senior Manager at Citigroup and PNC Financial
Services where he oversaw student loan operations. Mr. Underhill holds a B.A.
Degree from the University of South Florida and a Masters in Information
Systems from Robert Morris University. Mr. Underhill is also a Certified
Management Accountant.
